Overall Function
This team:
1. Coordinates and collaborates with other animal emergency response teams, as necessary
2. Coordinates and plans animal search and rescue efforts
3. Locates, captures, and contains displaced animals within the disaster zone
4. Prepares animals for transport
5. Identifies animals, documents rescue location, and records other relevant data to facilitate reunification with owners
6. Coordinates live trapping and chemical capture as necessary
7. Triages rescued animals for appropriate transport methods to prevent disease and mitigate medical and behavioral issues
8. Performs the above duties for one or more of the following populations:
a. Companion animals, including pets, service animals, and assistance animals
b. Livestock, including food or fiber animals and domesticated equine species
c. Wildlife, captive wildlife, or zoo animals
d. Laboratory animals
Composition and Ordering Specifications
1. Discuss logistics for deploying this team, such as working conditions, length of deployment, security, lodging, transportation, and meals, prior to deployment
2. Discuss provision/acquisition of necessary supplies and equipment, such as restraint/control and capture equipment
3. Requestor specifies competency areas necessary based on animal population
4. Requestor orders additional Animal Search and Rescue Technician(s), Animal Control/Humane Officer(s), or Animal Care and Handling Specialist(s) to increase team capacity based on incident
5. Requestor makes provisions for veterinary care based on mission requirements
