Description
The Animal Evacuation, Transport, and Re-entry Team evacuates animals from disaster areas to non-impacted areas by receiving animals from search-and-rescue teams, animal control personnel, shelters, or members of the community. This team coordinates the animals' return to the community, as appropriate. This team also transports animals from one location to another, as appropriate, to meet disaster response needs.

Overall Function
This team:
1. Coordinates with Animal Search and Rescue, Sheltering, and Veterinary Medical Teams, as necessary
2. Manages evacuation planning, activities, and transport
3. Identifies and documents animals
4. Initiates and continues animal tracking
5. Loads and unloads animals
6. Monitors animals throughout the evacuation, transport, and re-entry process
7. Transports or coordinates transport of evacuated animals to and from impacted areas
8. Reunifies or facilitates reunification of animals with their owners
9. Performs the above duties for one or more of the following populations:
a. Companion animals, including pets, service animals, and assistance animals
b. Livestock, including food or fiber animals and domesticated equine species
c. Wildlife, captive wildlife, or zoo animals
d. Laboratory animals
Composition and Ordering Specifications
1. Discuss logistics for deploying this team, such as working conditions, length of deployment, security, lodging, transportation, and meals, prior to deployment
2. Required personnel, supplies, and equipment depend on the operating environment (hot, warm, or cold), potential hazards, and type of mission (evacuation, re-entry, or both); requestor specifies additional training, certification, or experience required to operate in hazardous environments, if appropriate
3. Requestor specifies required competency with particular animal populations and tracking software/systems, as well as other evacuation, transport, and re-entry requirements
4. Requestor orders a Veterinarian or Veterinary Assistant to support team activities, if necessary
5. Discuss provision/acquisition of necessary animal identification and tracking supplies and equipment, such as GPS, microchips, universal microchip scanners, barcode systems and readers, ID supplies (tab band collars, livestock tags, or other ID suitable for species), intake forms, and request-for-rescue forms
6. Discuss provision of animal transport vehicles appropriate for the species transported, as well as the need for authorized drivers
7. Discuss the need for species-specific animal handling supplies and equipment
8. Requestor orders additional Animal Care and Handling Specialists or Animal Intake and Reunification Specialists as necessary, based on the incident
