Type Description
Type 1Same as Type 2, PLUS: The Type 1 Medical Officer is a board-certified medical or surgical specialist and has specialized training to treat and manage specific injuries, illnesses and exposures for patients of all ages in a variety of clinical settings, including those with special needs and special patient populations
Type 2Same as Type 3, PLUS: The Type 2 Medical Officer is a physician and has primary responsibility and authority over all aspects of patient care through the study, diagnosis and treatment of diseases, injury and other physical and mental conditions
Type 3The Type 3 Medical Officer is a clinician licensed to independently diagnose and treat a range of health problems and: 1. Works as an independently licensed clinician 2. Promotes health, disease prevention, maintenance of infection control standards and comprehensive health care 3. Provides clinical assessment and treatment 4. Prescribes medications, vaccines and other therapeutic interventions 5. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic tests 6. Coordinates with local public health personnel, volunteers, vendors and contractors 7. Coordinates and communicates balancing resources and provides operational recommendations based on medical needs or requirements 8. Performs medical triage, dispensing, client education and access and functional needs (AFN) screening 9. Maintains medical documentation
