| Type 1 | The primary focus is serving in an assistive role to surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other operating room staff to prepare patients for and assist during operative procedures. The Surgical Technologist: 1. Functions under the direct supervision of a surgeon, anesthesiologist, or registered nurse 2. Prepares surgical instruments before and after procedures 3. Assists with surgical counts with the registered nurse or circulator 4. Assists the surgical team to maintain a sterile field during each procedure 5. Prepares and transports patients safely to and from the operating room 6. Passes instruments, retracts tissues to help better visualize the area of the patient where the surgical team is working 7. Assists in the operation and sterilization of operative equipment |
