Type 1The NIMS Type 1 PRND Screener: 1. Functions as the Secondary Screener during steady state or enhanced steady state operations 2. Uses isotope identification detection equipment and investigative techniques to identify and investigate an event 3. Works with the Primary Screener to perform secondary screening tasks to include: a. Collection of spectra b. Isotopes identification c. Reachback
Type 2The National Incident Management System (NIMS) Type 2 PRND Screener: 1. Is the initial point of radiation detection and has first contact with a conveyance, individual, or shipment 2. Uses radiological nuclear detection equipment to perform the following functions: a. Detect b. Verify c. Locate d. Measure e. Assess f. Adjudicate or elevate 3. Interfaces with Secondary Screeners as necessary, such as when an elevated alarm necessitates secondary screening

Awareness (AWA)-140: Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Radiological/Nuclear (R/N) Awareness Course (instructor-led training or web-based training), or AWA – 1801: Visual Indicators of R/N Material, or b. Field Operations (FOP)-3200 (listed as DHS-019-PREV): Primary Screening, or Performance (PER)-243: Personal Radiation Detector (PRD) Course

Performs secondary screening operations and adjudicates non-threat alarms within a reasonable timeframe 3. Familiarity with radiological operations pertaining to the Secondary Screener position 4. Determines the appropriate half-life of radioisotopes Experience: Completion of the Secondary Screener PTB or AHJ equivalent
